About Aga Khan Cultural Services – Afghanistan (AKCS-A):

The AKTC was founded in 1988 and is registered in Geneva, Switzerland, as a private, non-denominational, philanthropic foundation. It is an integral part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a family of institutions created by His Highness the Aga Khan, with distinct yet complementary mandates to improve the welfare and prospects of people in countries in the developing world, particularly in Asia and Africa. AKTC is currently operating in Afghanistan under the name of Aga Khan Cultural Services – Afghanistan (AKCS-A) and is registered with the Ministry of Economy of the country.

Part of the wider development programme of the AKDN in Afghanistan, the AKCS-A has since 2002 been engaged in a range of initiatives in Kabul, Heart, Balkh, Badakhshan, and Logar aimed at the conservation and revitalization of historic neighborhoods, the improvement of living conditions and the development of professional and crafts skills.

Job Description:

General Function:

AKCS-A is implementing several projects in Afghanistan aimed at protecting Afghanistan’s tangible/intangible cultural heritage, and improving living conditions of the inhabitants, as part of a broader process of urban revitalization.  Working within a team of Afghan and international professionals, under the direct supervision of the Security Manager or his designate, the Security Assistant will be involved in a range of security and safety related activities in support of AKCS-A’s conservation and rehabilitation activities in Afghanistan.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To monitor safety and security situations in the inner and outer perimeter through electronic Security equipment and physically.
  • To ensure all electronic Security systems (Tracking Systems, Access Control, and Video Surveillance) are properly maintained and kept in good working order.
  • Monitoring the correct functioning and physical presence of security-relevant communications equipment: mobile phones, satellite phones, VHFs including battery, credit, and technical check, as needed.
  • Checking the office first aid kits, fire extinguishers, security gates and safe room supplies monthly basis.
  • Monitoring and overseeing the driver and guards’ full adherence to security-related issues, and SOPs, in close coordination with the Operations department.
  • Process security clearance verification and visit requests.
  • Should report immediately to the Security manager of any suspicious thing or person they found via watching the Surveillance Cameras or checking Access Control.
  • Report any technical failure of electronic Security systems for further action to the relevant department and the security manager.
  • Report any safety and Security-related incidents and accidents to the Security Manager.
  • Should be able to work on any required shift Day and/or Night. Furthermore, the duty is arranged by the security manager.
  • Assists the Security Manager in collecting, updating, and communicating information regarding the security situation in the country.
  • Should be able to keep and maintain security level confidentiality.
  • Maintain hard and electronic office files and records.
  • Maintain Security Department inventory and stock list.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as preparing and processing documentation, arranging requests, answering calls and correspondence, and handling paperwork.
  • Any other relevant task assigned by the Security Manager.

Job Requirements:

  • High school graduate, and formal security courses in plus.
  • Two years of experience in security, preferably with an INGO.
  • Fluency in English, Pashto, and Dari.
  • Good Knowledge of Afghanistan laws and rules/regulations
  • Good command of computers (absolute essential are MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, outlook, and dealing with web-based sites).
  • Ability to remain calm in difficult situations, ability to travel to provinces, ability to learn, physically fit, and have good communication skills.
