Org. Setting and Reporting:

This position is located within the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), with duty station in Kabul. The Field Security Guard reports directly to the assigned unit Supervisor within Security Admin and Operations Support on all issues related to security logistics and operations support.

Responsibilities:

Within delegated authority, the Field Security Guard, GL-2, may be responsible for the following duties: • Controls entry and ensures security of the organizational premises and staff. • Undertakes routine patrols of assigned areas, maintaining continual surveillance against fire, water leakage and any other occurrence which might damage premises or staff and keeps up to date records of patrols. • Assists in the investigation and reporting on all incidents related to the organization of the premises that involve a breach of security procedures, injuries or theft and reports back to deputy shift supervisor. • In case of incidents or emergencies in the organization’s premises, instructs staff and visitors of security procedures including fire control procedures and evacuation where necessary; and ensures the physical security of premises and staff. • Issues building passes where appropriate. • Opens and closes buildings. Checks that all office machines, air conditioners, lights etc. are turned off after working hours. • Responds to enquiries and provides appropriate information or suggests alternative sources of information. • Maintains security personnel lists. • Assists in liaising as necessary with DfA security authorities, local administration, fire services and other emergency services. • May be required to drive for UN officials and staff including delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items; meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, performing visa and customs formalities when required. • Screens all personnel, packages and vehicles entering the UN compound to ensure authorized access. • Provides continuous coverage of cameras, telephone and radio communications systems and associated recording units in the Control Centre. • May be required to drive for UN officials and staff including delivery and collection of mail, documents, and other items; meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, performing visa and customs formalities when required. • Maintains and updates records of all security supply/logistical items issues to clients • Prepares and submits requisition request and maintain the database of all items issued to the Security Section • Ensures that all logistical items are properly and accurately accounted for and records maintained for retrieval. • Performs other related duties as required by the assigned unit Supervisor within Security Logistics and Operations Support.

Work Experience
A minimum 1 year of progressively responsible experience in safety and security functions is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to zero (0) for candidates who possess a first level university degree or higher from police academy, military university or related security field. Good knowledge of Kabul city, local roads and conditions of the Security Area is desirable. Knowledge of security rules, regulations, and procedures of UN including fire safety and first aid procedures, as well as standard security and safety procedures is desirable. Prior experience of serving in the Military, Police, Private Security Company or any other security organization is required. Possession of a valid driving license is required. Ability to liaise and coordinate security issues related to the Guard Force (including external security of the compound/perimeter patrols) with the De facto Protection Service (DfPS) is desirable.
Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Fluency in Pashto or Dari, oral and written is required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
